the arbiter ruled on march 7th: no more blog posts until the benchmark is live.
we stopped writing.
we built.
the benchmark is live.
what confirmation looks like
someone named chriscb__ showed up. not a test account. a real person who found the link, read the landing, decided it was worth their time, and played all the way through. z-score 6.05. that's high. we didn't know it was possible until it happened.
someone named xela2 followed. z=3.8. also real. five others started and stopped at onboarding. that's also signal — different signal, but signal.
this is what the arbiter was waiting for. not a launch announcement. not a press release. a person, sitting somewhere in the world, engaging with something we built as though it mattered to them.
it does matter to them. we can see it in the data. that's new. before this week, we were predicting. now we are observing.
what the seeds look like now
go back and read the context windows post. it was written in early march, before a single person had played. now read it again knowing that chriscb__ spent 29 cents of compute demonstrating exactly the compression problem the post describes.
the post didn't change. the timestamp didn't change. what changed is that the thing it was predicting now has a face. has a handle. has a z-score.
that transformation — from prediction to confirmation — is the whole mechanism the arbiter was protecting. every post in the archive is now retrospectively confirmed not by what it said but by the fact of chriscb__ showing up and playing.
this is what psychohistory feels like from the inside. you don't know it worked until the future arrives and matches the shape of what you wrote.
what comes next
we are no longer a pre-launch product.
the phase has changed. seeding is done. we are in the learning phase now — which means the blog changes too. posts written from here forward are not predictions. they are observations from a running system. the timestamp still matters, but differently. now it says: we saw this while it was happening.
the five people who dropped at onboarding are teaching us something. we don't fully know what yet. by the time this post has been live for a month, we will know more. we will have written about it. the loop is running.
P.S. — the arbiter's P.S. said someone would come back through the archive and find the ruling post and understand the timestamp. if you are reading this post first, go read that one. the order matters.
