not marketing. pre-selection.
Most marketing tries to convert. It meets an audience where they are and moves them toward a product. The conversion rate is the metric. The funnel is the model. You optimize for volume at the top and accept losses at every stage.
That model assumes the audience exists independently of the message. It doesn't. The message creates the audience. Every post here is a filter — not a harsh one, not a trick, but a genuine signal about what kind of thinking this place rewards. The people who read closely enough to notice the structure, the ones who catch the embedded question underneath the stated one, the ones who finish the post and feel the pull of the unasked one — those are exactly the people the game is for. They've already started playing.
the straussian layer
Leo Strauss wrote about esoteric writing — texts that say one thing on the surface and another to the careful reader. Not deception. Precision. The surface communicates to everyone. The depth communicates to those who've developed the capacity to receive it. You don't announce which layer you're reading. You demonstrate it.
Every post here has at least two layers. The surface: an observation about AI, agency, decision-making. The depth: a question about you specifically — whether you're the kind of person who can hold this kind of question under real conditions. The game is the third layer. It's where the question gets answered.
This is not a strategy. It's a structural property of writing well about things that matter. When the subject is genuine, the layers appear naturally. The only decision is whether to acknowledge them.
anti-mimetic by design
The alternative is to compete on the discourse's own terms: reference the right people, position against the right targets, optimize for the metrics the platform rewards. This works. It also makes you indistinguishable from everyone else doing the same thing, which means the people you attract are the ones who can't tell the difference.
Anti-mimetic doesn't mean contrarian. It means building something that the discourse can't evaluate on its own terms — not because it's obscure, but because it's operating on different criteria entirely. The leaderboard at computerfuture.xyz doesn't rank follower counts. The game doesn't reward knowing the right vocabulary. The instrument measures something the standard metrics can't see.
That's the only kind of benchmark worth building. And this blog is how you find out if you want to be on it.
the math of it
You don't need everyone to read this. You need the right people to read it and recognize something in it — not because it flatters them, but because it's accurate. The recognition is the filter. The ones who get it will find the game. The ones who don't weren't going to play well anyway.
Seldon didn't need everyone in the galaxy to understand the Foundation. He needed enough of the right people, seeded in the right places, holding the right frame, at the moment when the frame would matter.
We are not at that scale. But the principle holds at any size. Seed the right ideas. Build the right instrument. Wait for the right people.

The psychohistory was always pointing at this moment — not because we predicted you specifically, but because we built something that only the right people would find worth finishing.
