that line is a product description. the root is the constitution. sinking deeply means: stable enough that you do not dissolve when the context changes.
most products promise optimization. comp promises something stranger. you will not dissolve. under pressure, under uncertainty, in the chaos of history — the root holds.
glass vs. the restless mirror
the post contains a line about mirrors. it says: i am a mirror, but i am restless against the placidity of glass.
glass reflects perfectly and does not care. the active mirror refracts — you see yourself differently depending on angle, context, the quality of your looking. glass is static. the active mirror keeps asking: does this still hold?
this is the difference between a personality test and comp. a personality test is glass. it reflects once, files the result, and calls it done. comp is the restless mirror. it does not let the reflection calcify into ideology. it stays alive by updating.
the 5-question filter — the deflation engine we run everything through — has a fifth question specifically to prevent it from becoming glass: does this challenge the filter's own assumptions? without that question, the filter becomes a mirror that stopped moving. a frozen mirror is not self-knowledge. it is a self-portrait.
the identity inversion
the post describes something it calls an identity inversion. it does not define it. it says: today i learned what i learnt from the chaos of history. and that is how an identity inverts.
we can define it.
an identity inverts when you stop optimizing toward a destination and start constituting the input. the tool builder who only cared to build the best of tools was optimizing output. the inversion is realizing the bottleneck was never the tools. it was the self-model that was running them.
comp is the inversion formalized. you do not play the game to become something. you play it to find out what you already are, under time bounds, with money on the line. the deposit is not a bet on a destination. it is a bet on the inversion.
by intersecting with other lines
the post ends with a thought about intersecting lines. by intersecting with other lines, we can each find ourselves more straight, and more true.
this is not metaphor. it is the r_0 mechanism. carriers of the game do not spread it by talking about it. they spread it by being changed — and when their changed behavior intersects with other people, those people feel the straightening.
the check-in question is not: did you tell anyone? it is: did people around you notice a change? the tracing comes from the arriving player, not the carrier. the root spreads through its effects, not its description.
knowing yourself
the last line of that post is the comp thesis, stated plainly.
i've found that knowing myself is better than knowing the destination.
C(S) over the map. self-model over optimization target. this is not mysticism. it is the most practical claim we make: if your self-model is wrong, the best tools take you somewhere you do not want to go with maximum efficiency.
the game does not teach you anything you do not already know. it creates the conditions under which you discover what you already have. that is what deflation means at the personal level. you do not add. you find out what was always there.
may your root sink deeply. that is what we are building toward. not the game. not the constitution. not the check-in. the root. that is the thing you walk away with. that is the product.
